New Beginnings

Anyone remember Dana Carvey on the premier of an all new cast SNL show? It was years ago now.  Sigorney Weaver was the host and she, Carvey and Phil Hartman (RIP) were in a sketch about a record company taking a chance on a singer/songwriter who'd become somewhat wasted over the years (Carvey).  Derek Stevens I think the character's name was.

Anyhow, the character was supposed to have finished a new album for the execs to hear.  He hadn't and started improvising on the spot some of the "new" tracks he had "ready to go".

One of them went like this:
"new beginnings, new beginnings, new beginnings, new beginnings, new beginnings ..."
You get the idea - wasn't a lot of great stuff in that one but there was also the "Chopping' Broccoli" song!  A great sketch. Anyway, the point is music and songwriting is a lot of inspiration and you can't always get it done or call it up.  But it's a great process isn't it?

Jamie and I (Keith) have been working for a while on the "Happy Accident" release. We called it that for all the happy accidents that happened in the recordings.  Lots of times you stumble on something that you would never have thought of and it becomes a keeper.

So, we gather, Derek Stevens and the record company from the sketch wouldn't have gone with the New Beginnings song but the Broccoli song was a keeper.

We'd love to hear the kinds of happy accidents you've encountered along the way.

Tell us here ...
