The Wall simply too good to ignore

I attended all three Wall shows in Toronto and, even a week later, the music is still escalating through my veins.  I can't get it out of my head really.  The entire presentation was stunning from the visuals on down to the actual construction of the Wall in the arena.  You knew it would be happening but to see it was something else!

I tweeted through the entire first show - knowing I would see it again made it easier to tweet actually since it does take your attention away from the show to do that. You can see the trail at #thewall and on our @thewhiners page.

I dialogued with a few people including one from New Zealand who "saw" the show via my tweet pics and comments.  I think the whole deal of cameras and video capabilities from iPhones etc has made the whole issue of bootlegs moot.  Within hours of the show clips were on YouTube.  That's a reality for the artist today. Rather than fear it, I think artists have to embrace it.  Why not have a staffer tweet and post like I did. They'd have better access for sure.  I did notice signs saying cameras were OK (to a certain quality level) and the proverbial "no flash cameras".  With a show like The Wall there was enough pyro right at the start that no one would have noticed a flash!

Talking with others at the show was great as well. All of us were just blown away. On the third night I ran into a fella who also went to all three shows too.  He's taken some incredible shots that you can view here.  Thanks John P. - these are amazing captures. The pics I got are vastly inferior such as what you see on this page.

Flying pig from The Wall concert in Toronto September 15, 2010

Thematically the show is as relevant to the times as ever - maybe more so if you extend the issues beyond "Pink". The images of war and war dead take you way out of the perspective of a rock star not happy with life.

I imagine a CD/DVD will come out of this and it will be a good item but I am not sure can capture the full deal of being there.  I saw Floyd live (the Gilmour version) and was blown away by those shows too but The Wall shows were truly rock theatre.  So it wouldn't be fair to compare at all or top compare to PULSE live.

I am also pleased to report that the Gilmour solo parts as played by the band were the closest yet to the real thing (i.e. Mr. Gilmour himself). I've seen Waters several times and, each time, the dudes just wanked off too much (sorry but it's true). This time, I think because of the discipline in timing the show requires, it was less wank more accurate. So kudos Dave Kilminster,  GE Smith and Snowy White as the players. Dave Kilminister did the Comfortably Numb solo and it was well done - 3 nights of 3 nights - that's the acid test as far as I'm concerned.

I tweeted our Whiners video of Comfortably Numb and I do believe Dave Green (sometimes guest with us) lead soloing is way worthy.  Please share the clip with others.

Love to hear thoughts from Rogeraholics as well as Floyds ... don't forget to check out Floyd vs. The Beatles.
